Final Fantasy 4--a work of art released in the United States in 1991. The big thing is, it was released under the title Final Fantasy 2. The reasons? Simple. The real Final Fantasy 2 was not released in the USA because it was thought that the American public did not want something closely resembling Final Fantasy 1, released for the NES. Final Fantasy 3 suffered the same fate (it was supposed to be released for the NES but wasn't). Next thing they knew, they were caught in their own net of lies and deceit. It came time to release Final Fantasy 4 for the SNES. Since this was a game for a different console, it was scheduled to be released. But then Square would have to explain to American gamers why they never saw Final Fantasies 2 and 3. So they made it very hush-hush, and released Final Fantasy 4 as Final Fantasy 2. (As for Final Fantasy 5, that wasn't released in America because it was supposedly too much like FF4, which is not so.) In any case, FF4 made many gamers quite happy, following a story much richer than that of FF1. I certainly know I enjoyed it, even though I had FF6 at the time.
