Final Fantasy VII was the first Final Fantasy game to leave Nintendo forever. I don't know what happened to Square Soft, but in any case we didn't get the worst of it because all that happened was Square allied with Sony. Final Fantasy VII came out for the Playstation, with three discs of pure art. This game proved to be the ultimate RPG, for even those who despised RPGs and wasted their time playing Goldeneye were captivated by the wondrous plot and the great graphics. Some say Final Fantasy VI was much better. I disagree in that I don't believe the two should be compared. Final Fantasy VI was, of course, the top of its genre for the Super NES. 1994 was really the best year for Super Nintendo. But were it to have 3-D renderings like Final Fantasy VII, would it be as good? Some say Final Fantasy VII had no plot at all. Well, actually, it had a more human plot, in a sense. Instead of revenge on an evil magician, a la Final Fantasy VI, it is a quest to discover oneself, which is the major tenet of many religions and the inability to do which is a great concern in our day of computerization. But I ramble. Final Fantasy VII featured stunning 3-D landscapes, beautifully rendered skies, suspenseful and emotional scenes (unless you're really stupid or really cynical, Aeris' tragic death at the hands of Sephiroth will really get to you). And you might even get to sympathize with the bad guy, like me. And of course, for the rest of the screaming populace who had no Playstation, Eidos released the game for the PC in the summer of 1997, making it available to me. (I can honestly say I was the first person in my state to buy a copy.)
